Welcome to Semiquavers! We are a choir of around 40 children from Year 2 and above who love to sing and perform. We are based at Christchurch Gravesend, and take part in regular acts of worship (including all age services, usually the 2nd Sunday of the month) and concerts. We have taken part in choral competitions, workshops and concerts with other choirs and performing arts groups, we have sung under the Christmas tree in trafalgar square and for doughnuts in Bluewater!
The choir is lead by Helen Osborne and Deborah Carter. Helen leads the Christchurch Music Group and robed Church Choir. She has taught music in Zimbabwe and conducted a winning choir in the Zimbabwe Eistedfodd and was then invited to adjudicate the following year. Helen is an accomplished musician, playing piano, flute, clarinet and violin, but also has a busy day job in London and is a mum to Tilly. Deborah is a singer who has sung in choirs all her life as part of choirs, quartets and as a soloist. Deborah currently sings with The City of London Chamber Choir singing at cathedrals across the country including Westminster Abbey. Deborah has performed as a soloist for concerts in Gravesend, Bromley, Crayford, Dartford and Ypres in Belgium. She has also performed on the local amateur dramatics scene and enjoys a good pantomime! Deborah works in London and lives in Gravesend and is mum to Samuel and Nicholas.
Membership of Semiquavers is free. We have Semiquavers Tee Shirts and hoodies which can be ordered from Gill Campbell at rehearsals. For concerts and other events we ask the choir to wear black trousers, black shoes and their Semiquavers tops. Semiquavers have the opportunity to take part in the RSCM Voice for Life Scheme which teach them music theory and singing technique, these optional sessions are chargeable at a discounted rate and are held once or twice per year (workload permitting!).
So if your child is in year 2 or above we would love to welcome them to Semiquavers and hope they will enjoy making music with new friends. Come along to rehearsal at 6.15pm on a Tuesday at Christ Church.
Semiquavers practice on Tuesday evenings between 6.15pm and 7.30pm at Christ Church.
